Introducing Brookland’s new stage, The Banksia

Featuring 52 architecturally-designed apartments with stunning views over the green suburb of Robertson, Brookland’s newest stage, The Banksia, offers retirees a choice of stylish one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

Adding to Brookland’s thriving new community centre facilities, The Banksia will also include a new residents private cinema and open green spaces.

To launch the new stage, an information session was held with over 50 guests attending to hear from the project’s key visionaries including Reside Communities CEO, Glen Brown, and Reside ambassador and award-winning journalist, Kay McGrath.

Project architect, Michael Jullyan from Think Tank Architects explained the inspiration behind the latest stage.

“When designing we wanted to keep the views in particular, the outlook and the views are magnificent,” Michael said.

“In retirement villages things can feel crowded and a bit tight but with this added hub and the outlook, it feels more open.”

Construction of The Banksia is due to be complete in mid-2024 and it’s giving future residents, like Ian and Bev McLucas, a second chance to snap up an apartment.

“We’ve lived locally for 50 to 60 years with friends and family conveniently around and we were quite pleased with the locality of Brookland, but the first stage didn’t suit our timing,” said Ian.

“Downsizing is a mindset thing and we both lead busy lives, so we didn’t want to slow down.”

While couple John and Robyn Arthur are also hoping to make the move to Brookland.

“We chose Brookland because of the area, we’ve lived in Sunnybank Hills for 53 years now and saw Brookland in the first stage, but we weren’t ready then,” said Robyn.

Pleased with the buildings and amenities on offer at Brookland, Ian and Bev decided to make the switch.

“We’ve got a big three-bedroom apartment with a large patio for dinning. Every 15 minutes there’s a bus and these things you consider as you get older,” said Ian.

“Suella was very helpful and that helped make the decision for us and the next stage is probably going to be a lot better for us than the first, because we’re ready.”

Locals John and Robyn Arthur are looking forward to the relaxed living on offer at Brookland.

“I’ll probably try aqua aerobics and my husband enjoys swimming in the warmer months and visiting the gym,” she said.

‘My husband already knows people [at Brookland] he plays bowls with and there’s help available if we need it too.”
