Faces of Reside: A warm welcome for Brookland’s newest resident

She only moved in last month, but Judy Theodoridis is already feeling at home at Brookland.

The 73-year-old grandmother is the last resident to move into Stage 1 of our refurbished village and has been busy exploring everything on offer.

“There are so many lovely activities to do and I’m trying to get involved in the community as much as I can,” she said.

“I’ve gone down to the gym and used the rowing machine and popped in the pool to stretch my back out.

“There are indoor bowls and snooker, and I went to trivia the other night. You can go to the clubhouse and have a coffee and a chat with anyone.

“Happy Hour is on a Friday at 4.30pm and you can get a glass of wine for $4, which is fantastic. It feels like I’ve been here for ages because everyone is so welcoming.”

Judy, a former nurse, used to work in the operating theatre of the Royal Brisbane Hospital before leaving to raise her four sons. She later returned to nursing as a personal care worker in home respite.

She moved to Brookland from Kangaroo Point and is enjoying the feeling of security she gets from village life.

“If I had bought a unit in a big apartment building, I wouldn’t have felt as secure as I do here,” she said.

“I was a bit apprehensive about the move at first but there are always people around and the staff are very helpful.

“It makes a change for me as I’m usually the one in ‘carer mode’ asking if I can help someone.”

Judy is also enjoying visits from her grandchildren, who are very impressed with her new home and often tell her how well she’s done.

We couldn’t agree more!
