Cyclone Alfred brings out the poets at Happy Hour

Safety came first at Brookland Robertson as Southeast Queensland prepared for Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

But when it came to Happy Hour, it was business as usual for our Stage 2 – Banksia residents who decided to throw their own cyclone party in the comfort and safety of Level 3 of the building!

What’s more, they also put their heads together and penned this jolly poem to remember the event:

It was on a wet and windy Alfie Friday night,

That the folk on level three, with possible loss of power,

Thought they might miss out on Happy Hour,

So all those who agree would host their own luxury,

With table and chairs assembled all around the floor,

We started our own ‘Happy Hour’ at a quarter to four,

With no little bell to do the dirty,

Last drinks finished at six thirty!!!

If this picture is anything to go by, a good time was had by all.

Reside Communities CEO Glen Brown said the residents’ determination to keep the social spirit alive, even in the face of a tropical cyclone, perfectly captured the heart and camaraderie of Brookland.

“This is what makes Brookland so special – the resilience, the laughter, and the mateship that brings people together no matter the circumstances,” he said.

“I also give full credit to the poets – what a fantastic way to commemorate a truly memorable night!”
